PinkDrive and Totalsports lacing up for 2018 Women’s Race
The streets of Johannesburg will be painted pink on National Women’s Day when 1000s of women #RunUnited at the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive.
The Totalsports Women’s Race is an annual event that supports PinkDrive, an organisation that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness and education, as well as providing free services to the medically uninsured.
Fébé Meyer, PinkDrive Marketing Manager in Randburg, stated that PinkDrive is “Honoured to be part of this special event,” as they believe the race grants them a platform to continue their work on breast cancer awareness.
“The event gives us the perfect platform to raise awareness regarding breast cancer, while spreading the message that ‘Early detection saves lives’,” she said.
PinkDrive is planning on offering free clinical breast examinations during the race, granting participants the opportunity to be screened.
“By hosting the events on National Women’s Day we are able to commemorate the women of our country in an active and fun way, while raising important awareness regarding breast cancer,” Fébé stated.
According to Fébé, the Totalsports Women’s race was a well-supported event in 2017, where they conducted 338 clinical breast examinations, none of which required further referrals. “Runners made good use of our ‘Shop4Cancer’ where they could ‘pimp’ themselves pink,” she said.
PinkDrive is solely reliant on the goodwill of corporate organisations and individuals, meaning that the donation that they are due to receive from the event allows them to continue their incredible work around the country.
“Each and every participant is assisting us to make a difference. We are truly grateful to be the chosen beneficiary of the Totalsports Women’s Race,” Fébé said.
According to Meagan Davids, PinkDrive Mammographer, “Exercise is an important part of the follow-up care. To be physically active is vitally important for survivors and can play a good part in physical and emotional health,” she continued.
Meagan also said that it’s always a good idea to include exercise that strengthens bones, such as walking and jogging.
