You can still ‘Name the Chick’ whether you’ve already entered or not

Don't miss out on your chance to win some phenomenal prizes courtesy of Spar, Guvon Hotels and Spas, and the Eagle's Fair Restaurant.

Last week, the Northsider, in association with its sister papers, the Roodepoort Record, the Krugersdorp News, the Randfontein Herald and the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans, launched the second edition of the Name the Chick competition, and whether you’ve already submitted an entry or not, you can still enter.

The latest addition to our beloved Black Eagle family appeared in mid-June, courtesy of Makatsa and Thulane, despite a minor setback in March when the pair lost their favoured nest to extremely heavy rain. The time it could have taken for them to find a suitable spot and build a new nest threatened to postpone their mating season.

But, the determined pair built their new nest in record time and in May, Makatsa laid her eggs. On 16 June, the first egg hatched. The eaglet survived its dance with destiny in the form of the second-born, and has passed the two-month-old mark.

This means that we are now entering into the final 30–35 days of the eaglet’s sojourn in the nest, before it fledges.

This also means that we are in need of a name for our new eaglet, and you can help us out with that problem.

So far, the Northsider has received 35 entries, already a quarter of the total submitted last year. Here is a random selection of some of the names we have received so far:

• Nomvula

• Ikusasa

• Inkululeko

• Siyanda

• Nkanyezi

If you have already entered, feel free to enter again, as the more times you enter, the more names you submit, and the better your chance of having your submission picked as winner.

The person whose name is eventually chosen from the multitude of entries will be rewarded with a R500 Spar voucher, a R200 voucher for the Eagle’s Fair Restaurant in the Garden, and a two-night midweek stay for two people at one of the Guvon Hotel and Spa establishments.

Please note that if you work for or are affiliated to the South African National Biodiversity Institute, Black Eagle Project Roodekrans, Proteadal Conservation Association, Wild Orchids of Southern Africa Association, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, or with Caxton and the CTP Group Limted, you are not permitted to enter the competition.

The competition will run until 14 September.

To enter is simple, just follow these two steps:

Step 1: Enter your details and answers into the form at the end of the article.

Step 2: ‘Like’ the Roodepoort Northsider’s Facebook page, share the article, and tag four friends in the comments section to see who can come up with the best name.
