With Level 3 of the lockdown regulations allowing more sectors of the economy to resume their activities, Spring Road Bridge community liaison officer, Quinton Zulu, confirmed that work at the site has been resumed.
“We are back in full swing since the beginning of June,” Zulu confirmed.
While the bridge was meant to be completed this month, Zulu told Northsider that it could take another two months or so.
The reason for the inevitable delay was the lockdown which resulted in businesses and schools having to close. Prior to the shutdown, the construction company was doing back-filling, just in time to install the beams.
As far as on-site safety is concerned, Zulu explained that they had made sanitizers, gloves and masks available to protect their employees.
Awareness signs were put up around the site to remind the workers and pedestrians about the importance of hygiene.
