City Power has extended its apologies to customers that were left in the dark due to power outages across the city.
The power utility’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena appealed to customers to be patient as they address the backlogs in restoring electricity to certain areas.
“Several areas across the City of Johannesburg have gone without electricity for over two weeks. This is partly due to the lack of material and stock in our stores, which delays the turnaround time to do the repairs,” Mangena explained.
That includes pole-mounted transformers, mini-substations and fuses. “Due to the network being overloaded, transformers have blown and fires have broken out, leading to an increase in the demand for these components,” he explained.
“We also had problems finding suppliers for these materials due to the Covid-19 challenges. We have started receiving the material since Friday, and work to complete the repairs has started with the expectation that it will continue into this week,” Mangena indicated.
“While we as City Power try our best to attend to the outage backlogs, we appeal to you to bear with us and be patient as we work to deal with the increase in demand and backlogs. We also appeal to you to cooperate with our teams when they do their job in your area,” he urged, warning that they will not hesitate to pull out their teams if their safety is being compromised.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to those affected by these prolonged outages,” Mangena concluded.
