SA athletes join Nelson Mandela Covid-19 Relief Virtual Challenge
The initiative helps ensure that people who feel discarded and forgotten are assisted through the challenge's contributions.
The Nelson Mandela Covid-19 Relief Virtual Challenge is a virtual event named after world icon Nelson Mandela to encourage social cohesion, and assist with Covid-19 relief efforts with the Each 1 Feed 1 campaign.
It is presented by FXTM in partnership with Ride4Hope and the Nelson Mandela Foundation on 1 August 2020.Athletes from South Africa’s biggest sporting teams such as the Vodacom Blue Bulls, Emirates Lions, Momentum Multiply Titans, Imperial Lions, Nedbank Running Rlub, FXTM Cycling and Nelson Mandela Foundation Ambassadors will participate in the event.
It gives the participants the opportunity to ride together to bring about relief and awareness to a pandemic faced all over the world. Ride leaders include 1995 World Cup Rugby hero Joel Stransky, and the 2020 Cape Argus Cycle Tour winner, Travis Barret from Office Guru Cycling Team.
Also kitting up and making the start line is Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO, Sello Hatang and television presenter Maps Moponyane, among others. To ride with your sporting heroes on the four available rides on the day and make your contribution towards assisting those hardest hit by the pandemic, members of the community are encouraged to visit the official page to enter.”The Challenge gives participants and contributors an opportunity to give hope to the people whose lives they touch during this challenge.”

“Putting miles on their paddles to change lives, notwithstanding that this year due to Covid-19 the ride will be virtual,” said Hatang.
The event allows for people around the world to ride remotely and virtually, and participants will be able to join their sporting heroes in real time on Zwift from 7am to 12.30pm in allocated time slots. Through the generosity of the event partners, participants will stand a chance to win a Toyota Fortuner (for a month), signed team jerseys from all participating teams, Ciovita cycling hamper, Weber Braai unit and Falke hampers.
Participants can enter the challenge for free and join the raffle of choice with all proceeds going towards Covid-19 relief efforts. The public is also welcome to make a donation.
