Tributes pour in for Florida Police reservist
Reservist, Warrant Officer André Marx passed away on 14 July following a short illness.
The police community are in mourning following the untimely passing of one of their brightest lights.
Reservist, Warrant Officer André Marx passed away on 14 July following a short illness. Tributes have come from all corners as people remember a man heralded for his integrity, likability and willingness to help. A 33-year veteran of the Reservists, Warrant Officer Marx passed just one year short of retirement, which he would have celebrated on his 60th birthday next August.
Constable Wendy Wellcome shared her moving recollection of the man she worked alongside for 15 years. “He was a deeply religious man and lived his life in an exemplary manner. He was an example to the younger generation of what the conduct of a true gentleman, friend, ‘brother’, colleague and police officer should be. One thing he used to do was quote Bible verses that made sense to any situation any person was in. He was very passionate about his police work, and working with him was always a pleasure. He loved his family above all else,” she said.
Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn, fondly recalls his interactions with Warrant Officer Marx, saying ,”I had the privilege of interacting with him on a number of occasions and found him to be extremely humble, kind, respectful and considerate of everyone around him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and friends. May you find comfort during this extremely difficult time.”
The resounding theme in all the kind words dedicated to Marx was his overwhelming professionalism and unrivalled approachability. Constable Wellcome concluded her tribute by saying, “His wife Christelle was his everything, as were his children and grandchildren. He treated us all at Florida Police as his family as well. The death of W/O Marx has touched all of us at Florida Police and the community as a whole. His passing will be recorded as one of the saddest losses we have suffered at Florida SAPS in recent years. W/O Marx will never ever be forgotten and will always be in our hearts.”
