Kromdraai family grateful for help in finding grandfather

Richard Brengosz, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions, left his family worried and traumatised after going missing for a day.

The Brengosz family from Kromdraai have taken their hats off to a number of role players who rallied together to search and find a senior member of their family after he had gone missing.

Richard Brengosz, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions, left his family worried and traumatised after going missing for a day.

“On Saturday, 1 August at 2.30pm my grandfather (Richard Brengosz) got into his car and left his house in Kromdraai without saying a word,”said his worried granddaughter, Camilla-Lee Frazer.

She said they started searching for him from 4pm. “He has the awful habit of carrying his phone with him but keeps it off. He only ever turns it on to check the time, and see if he has a message, and then turns it off again,” she explained.

Through a network of people and institutions, including the Krugersdorp and Roodepoort AfriForum, Pink Ladies, various security companies and neighbourhood watches, they found him in Ventersdorp in North West at 5am the following day.

“We want to say a massive thank you to all the role players. We are so grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We would also like to encourage people to contact all these companies when they have any problems,” a grateful Camilla-Lee concluded.
