Inspector Shiven Bodasing from the Randburg SPCA confirmed to the Northsider that the Husky-breed dog has been housed at the animal shelter since the incident as evidence in the case.
When asked what would happen to the dog, he said police were still investigating the tragedy and they would wait for the outcome.
The inspector also mentioned that they have made arrangements for the family to visit the animal.
Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, who viewed the incident as an accident, said the matter is still ongoing.
The six-week-old baby girl was accidentally killed by the animal while she was left unattended. It was reported that when the dog heard the baby cry, its instincts took over and it attempted to lift the baby to take it to her mother, but accidentally bit the baby in the process.
This is a developing story.
