Constantia Kloof landscaper wins gold at 2020 SALI Awards

SALI and its members are associated and represented by the South African Green Industries Council (SAGIC) which was created to promote professionalism and quality in landscaping.

While Covid-19 has drastically affected a lot of businesses, it seems even with the current challenges there is still a need for hard work to maintain beautiful and environmentally friendly external spaces.

On 27 August, Servest Landscaping Solutions walked away with 14 awards for landscaping projects that it entered in the South African Landscapers Institute (SALI) awards of excellence for 2020.

The awards included the overall trophy award for best landscape maintenance site, seven double-gold awards, three gold awards and three silver awards.

Servest also took the SALI trophy award for Best Landscape and Turf Maintenance for their outstanding work at the iconic 20,7ha FNB stadium.

They received gold awards for landscape maintenance at Standard Bank in Constantia Kloof, and at House Murphey in Kyalami.

“Servest constructed the initial FNB field turf ten years ago, and we are still responsible for the day to day maintenance of this field – which is the largest stadium in Africa.

“Some of its functions include fulfilling specialised environmentally friendly approaches such as rainwater harvesting stored in underground water reservoirs, irrigation, composting, wet agents and the use of seasonal herbicide spraying of the field – a feature that earned this entry a double-gold award for its water-wise initiative,” said André Ferreira, sales director of Servest’s Landscaping division.

The awards recognised the best use of colour in landscape, best novice entry, most innovative and original work in plant material, best specialised turf construction, best environmental landscape work, most improved home stores, and overall facilities management, among others.

SALI and its members are associated and represented by the South African Green Industries Council (SAGIC) which was created to promote professionalism and quality in landscaping.

The organisation was formed in 1984 by a group of landscapers who believed that the true potential of the landscaping industry could only be realised if landscapers showed unity, produced excellent work and worked with professionalism and integrity.

SALI remains the only standards body in the landscaping industry and the voice for landscaping professionals in South Africa.

The awards aim to prompt best practice principles to encourage sound green practices across the green industry.

In the past 36 years, the awards have been held at live awards ceremonies. This year, the awards were held online, and winners were announced at a virtual awards ceremony.
