Man dies in single-vehicle high-speed accident

Believed to be in his late twenties or early thirties, a man was killed when he lost control of his blue early-model Golf and collided with a metal pillar.

The quiet lanes of a Sunday evening freeway present a dangerous opportunity for daredevil speed junkies. Sadly, the results can be deadly when the limits are exceeded, as demonstrated just before the Gordon Road offramp on the N1 on 20 September.

Believed to be in his late twenties or early thirties, a man was killed when he lost control of his blue early-model Golf and collided with a metal pillar. Paramedics arrived shortly before 7pm to find the mangled vehicle on the centre median, with the ER24 Communication Officer reporting what was found. “The patient was completely entrapped in the vehicle and had suffered multiple, fatal traumas. He, unfortunately, showed no signs of life and was declared dead on our arrival,” he stated.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident and the ER24 extraction team was required to painstakingly remove the lone victim from the wreckage. Florida Community Policing Forum Chairperson, Prashan Sukhu, elaborated on the incident and issued a cautious request, saying, “It appears that the driver was driving at very high speed and it is unknown if he was intoxicated. We appeal to all people to please drive safely and to avoid driving while intoxicated, especially with the move to Level 1.”
