Ruimsig artist hand-picked for Blooming Sounds concert
His music encompasses a myriad of sounds including R&B, soul, electronic and alternative in his music.
Moonga K Kapambwe, better known by his stage name Moonga K, is a singer-songwriter from Botswana who is currently based in Ruimsig and has his music talent set to bloom at the Blooming Sounds concert.
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), in partnership with Total South Africa, in association with Kaya FM and produced by Bassline announce the top six up-and-coming Gauteng-based artists who will be performing at the four-hour livestream event titled Blooming Sounds from Joburg, on Saturday 26 September, live on www.skyroomlive.com.
The concert is free to the public who can enjoy the original talents of the hand-picked performing artists as well as exciting headliners from the comfort of their own homes.
The event will be broadcast from the iconic Constitution Hill against the women’s prison, and will kick off at 4pm and end at 8pm.
The six talented artists were chosen by a panel consisting of reputable music industry giants, and the chosen six will open for the headline acts, Zoë Modiga and Stogie T, who will feature in their own shows.
Moonga was born in Zambia and raised in Botswana. His father pursued reggae music part-time and his mother loved gospel.
His music encompasses a myriad of sounds including R&B, soul, electronic and alternative in his music.
Moonga was inspired at the age of 14 years to develop his song-writing further after hearing Frank Ocean’s American Wedding.
He subsequently birthed his own take on alternative soul with childhood friend and frequent collaborator Andrew Williams, taking an introspective deep dive into topics such as love in all its forms, depression, anxiety and social-justice issues.
Moonga’s soulful, honeyed tone finds a home in the intimate spaces of his 2017 six-track extended play record Free and debut album Wild Solace, wonderfully showcasing his versatility as a singer and songwriter.
Out of the many talented entries that were considered, the six artists who were chosen stood out because they were distinctive and delivered strong vocal performances.
“They are all good in their own right and I believe the selected bands will deliver on the night of the concert,” said Andrew Poane from Bassline.
The artists will be aired on Kaya FM after the concert, which will give them more exposure, and they will get an opportunity to record their music professionally.
