WATCH: Budding rock legend needs a push down the road of destiny

As with every talented youth in the country, resources and opportunity are constant battles.

The glory of youth is in discovering one’s talents and exploring the things that bring pleasure, joy and fulfilment. When that talent is something that evokes all those positive emotions then success is a palpable prospect.

In a quiet Witpoortjie street the melodic thumping of a kick drum signals the embryonic rise of a star. At only 13, Dylan Deideriks has developed an intuitive love for the drums. Able to replicate complicated arrangements by ear, his talents propelled him to a 99 per cent mark in the Trinity College London Rock & Pop exam as well as several other school and church accolades.

As with every talented youth in the country, resources and opportunity are constant battles. Dylan has been using the same electric drum set for eight years, and with the high-energy swinging of limbs, the once sturdy electric set has taken a beating. Dylan’s proud mother, Elmarie, recently created a BackaBuddy campaign to assist her son as although repaired several times, parts are increasingly hard to find. “Upgrading to a professional acoustic drum set will further his career as a drummer, and will be beneficial for live shows in the future,” she pleaded.

The pathway to stardom seldom happens without a little good fortune along the road, and Dylan is approaching a precipice. Starting high school next year and approaching 1 000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, he is ripe to begin the next stage of his evolution. Help him by supporting his BackaBuddy campaign below, invoking the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, brought to life by the immortal lyrics belted out by Meatloaf and written by Jim Steinman, “When you really need it the most, that’s when rock ‘n’ roll dreams come through”.
