Join the Chatroom for cancer support

Although operating virtually due to the Covid-19 regulations, Chrissie ten Krooden from the group has availed their platform for cancer survivors for free to chat, discuss their condition and ask advice.

The month of October is defined every year by pink ribbons pinned to thousands of South Africans’ T-shirts. For the entire month the country supports initiatives to raise awareness about breast cancer.

This disease commonly affects women, and sometimes men. The symptoms of breast cancer include a lump in the breast, bloody discharge from the nipple, and changes in the shape or texture of the nipple or breast.

Treatment includes a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation or radiotherapy.

Cancer patients often tend to isolate themselves in these already stressful times, but organisations such as the West Rand Chatroom are available to provide the necessary support.

Although operating virtually due to the Covid-19 regulations, Chrissie ten Krooden from the group has availed their platform for cancer survivors for free to chat, discuss their condition and ask advice.

“We haven’t started meeting physically yet but everyone, especially during Breast Cancer Month is welcome to join our cancer social support group, which is not limited to a particular form of cancer,” she specified.

According to Chrissie, the fundamental focus of the Chatroom is to encourage cancer patients and give them hope by inviting guest speakers to share their experiences of dealing with cancer.

She concluded by encouraging cancer patients and/ or survivors to contact her if they wish to join their social group.
