The Jerusalema Dance Challenge has flooded social media platforms recently. Videos of groups of people dancing in perfect unison to the catchy, uplifting song are being used as a way to spread joy throughout South Africa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa called on citizens to put their best foot forward and show off their moves to lift spirits and spread unity throughout the country, and two local dance clubs joined forces to heed his call.

The Rainbow Line Dancers and Dance Palace teams gathered on the Ontdekkers Road service road in Roodepoort on Saturday, 26 September to perform the dance that they had been practising twice a week for three weeks β and they did not disappoint. Dancers of all ages worked together to perfect their moves before videoing their take on the challenge for all to see over the Heritage Day weekend.
Later that same day, the dancers performed the Jerusalema Dance again and live-streamed their performance at the same time as several dance companies from all over the world for the World Dance Masters’ fundraising initiative.

βIt is amazing to see how happy this dance makes people. As a ballroom studio we usually dance very close together, but this dance allows for the distance that we need to stay safe while doing what we love,β commented Wikus Jansen van Vuuren, Dance Director and Teacher at The Dance Palace.
