Selfless supporter trims her locks for CANSA

At the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Northwest Christian School Grade 5 chopped off 33cm of her hair to donate to CANSA.

Little is as virtuous or bursting with hope as the world seen through a child’s eyes. Many of the world’s ills could be removed if the cynicism of age could be replaced by those enduring ideas.

Three years ago, 11-year-old Daniella Meireles’ heart sank when she learned that those suffering from cancer often lose their hair while undergoing treatment. That innocent distress soon turned to hope as she was informed that wigs made of human hair were a common substitute for cancer sufferers. From that moment, it became her mission to grow her hair long enough to trim off a substantial amount of her locks for a good cause.

At the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Northwest Christian School Grade 5 chopped off 33cm of her hair to donate to CANSA. “She was so excited to think that her hair was going to make someone happy,” said Denise Easton of Clearwater Cyber Lions Club. The Meireles family have had several brushes with the disease and young Daniella is doing her part to support.

Clearwater Cyber Lions Club arranged to have the young Rapunzel live her fledgling dream at the CANSA West Rand headquarters. The CANSA support network is always welcoming of donations and while for some it is the shirts off their backs, the hair off one’s head is equally valuable.
