Councillor thanks MP for donating wheelchair

To assist the family even further, the councillor indicated that she requested an intervention from the MMC for Health and Social Development, Councillor Sibongile Mgcina to visit the family.

DA Shadow MMC for Community Development and Ward 114/ 100 PR councillor, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku has expressed her appreciation to the DA Shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridgette Masango who recently went out of her way to source a wheelchair for a disabled teenager in Zandspruit.

The donation follows Bridgette’s visit to the area to engage the community about SASSA-related issues, which she would then escalate to the portfolio committee in Parliament.

Apart from the numerous grievances she had to address on behalf of the embattled department, Bridgette couldn’t bear the challenges that most child-headed families and the severely disabled 16-year-old had to go through in order to receive their SASSA grants.

“I’m really grateful to the hardworking DA activists in Zandspruit and Cosmo City who always alert me of community issues that require urgent intervention. I also thank Mam Bridget for the wheelchair donation after the SASSA engagement visit,” an emotional Belinda said during the handover.

To assist the family even further, the councillor indicated that she requested an intervention from the MMC for Health and Social Development, Councillor Sibongile Mgcina to visit the family.

Following this, Belinda checked up on orphans in Itsoseng (Eskom). She cited that had it not been for the SASSA engagement visit, cases of child-headed families wouldn’t be known to the public.

“Government is really not giving child-headed households the attention it deserves. I’m really humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve in these wards, and see the smiles when people feel heard,” she lamented.
