Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott has expressed her appreciation for the involvement of security companies and individuals who went out of their way to clear trees that had fallen onto the roads over the weekend marked by heavy rain and strong wind.
“I am constantly impressed with many of the security companies in our ward; they are responsive to issues outside of their mandate,” she said.
The storm, accompanied by strong wind, left numerous parts of the West Rand in disarray as leaves, branches and trees were blown onto many roads – posing a danger and obstructing traffic.
Leah said, “It got a bit crazy with more than 50 trees having to be dealt with, and while the City Parks tree team is exceptionally efficient on a normal day, it was a big job that needed all hands on deck,” she highlighted the magnitude of the disaster.
However, in addition to the storm damage, some suburbs were left in the dark as power supply was interrupted.
On top of BCI Security receiving heaps of praises from Leah for removing trees on some roads in Little Falls and Strubens Valley, she also recognised City Parks Senior Horticulturist André Laubscher, and Regional Manager Puleng Ditabe, for always going above and beyond to assist the councillors when they raise residents’ issues.
“It just shows that if we all get into things together and unite, we can achieve so much in such a short amount of time,” Leah concluded.
