On Saturday, 14 November, Trinityhouse Little Falls learner, Carleigh Palmer took top honours in the Taste Bud Battle, South Africa’s premier kids and teens cooking and baking competition.
The Taste Bud Battle Final Cook-Off was held at the Capsicum Culinary Studio in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
Forty finalists from around the country representing four different age categories, arrived in Johannesburg to battle it out in the Final Mystery Box Challenge.
The Challenge yielded four wonderfully talented young chefs, who won their age categories of which 13-year-old Carleigh was one.
This was her second year entering the competition, and although she made it through to the finals last year too, she narrowly missed taking the cake (so to speak).
But this year Carleigh was back and ready to go all the way. She not only made the semi-finals with her delicious Floating Strawberry Cheesecake, but she went on to win the finals with the best Pumpkin Pie of the day in her age category.
“We are thrilled for Carleigh because this is a good example of determination and perseverance at its best.
“Carleigh has talent and a passion for cooking, and we are so proud of her for taking on the lessons she learned in 2019 and coming back this year to win – a life lesson beyond the kitchen in perseverance and determination,” said Taste Bud Battle Director, Donna Verrydt.
Carleigh walked away with the title and incredible prizes too, including:
• R500 Menlyn Shopping Centre hamper
• R600 Cresta Shopping Centre voucher
• R1 000 Rites skincare hamper
• R5 000 Hirsch’s Homestore voucher
• R8 500 Rookie Chef Course from Capsicum Culinary Studio
• R10 000 prize money from Snowflake
• A R10 000 weekend for two adults and two kids at Sun International’s Wild Coast Sun
The Taste Bud Battle is South Africa’s top kids and teens cooking and baking competition which focuses on giving kids the opportunity to feed their culinary passion.
