Illegal power connections removed in Zandspruit yield positive results

According to the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), removing the illegal power connections are operations that are planned weeks ahead of time to ensure that all role players can assist.

Tuesday, 24 November saw City Power, Honeydew Police and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officials embark on one of their missions to remove Illegal power connections on Beyers Naudé Drive in and around Zandspruit.

The road was closed off by JMPD between Johan and Peter Road while City Power conducted their operation, and Honeydew Police maintained a high presence and monitored the area.

The operations yielded some positive results as five transformers, 10 steel street lamp poles and 14 tons of electric wires were recovered. The value of the recovered goods amounted to R560 000.

Later in the day, the roads were opened partially to start monitoring the flow of traffic. JMPD and Public Order Police remained visible after the operation to monitor for any violence but no incidents were reported.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that City Power was operating in the area and that no arrests were made as the suspects fled the scene.
