Cyclist transported to hospital after early morning collision
The driver of the vehicle didn't see the cyclist who was riding behind a large bakkie until it was too late.
A cyclist has been transported to hospital following a collision with a light motor vehicle early this morning, 28 January.
Shortly after 7.35am, the driver of a grey Audi A4 was waiting on CR Swart Road for an opening in the morning traffic to turn right into Naboom Street. According to the driver, the cyclist was riding down CR Swart Road in the direction of Wilgerood Road, when he took the slipway to turn left into Naboom Street.
The driver of the vehicle didn’t see the cyclist who was riding behind a large bakkie until it was too late. The cyclist and the driver both turned onto Naboom Street at the same time and collided just after the corner. The bicycle had been broken into two pieces and the wheels were badly bent, while the Audi had little damage other than a broken headlight and the licence plate being knocked off.
The Audi driver and the passenger in the vehicle, who thankfully were both uninjured, were quick to contact paramedics who arrived on scene at approximately 7.40am. The ER24 responders found the cyclist lying in the road and upon assessment, discovered that he had broken his leg and needed to be transported to hospital.
The cyclist was stabilised on scene and given a drip to assist with the pain before being transported to Leratong Hospital for further care. JMPD was on scene to take statements from the driver and any witnesses, while Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) patrollers assisted in directing the morning traffic around the scene.
