Heart-warming meal for the children of Matholesville

According to one of the organisers, Vusumzi Mphanjukelwa, the idea originated from a group of friends from the Eastern Cape who are based on the West Rand.

A community with a cause can inspire each other, which makes a larger impact on the well-being of the most vulnerable. When we do give together in community, there can be an amazing joy as a result of the generosity that becomes infectious to those around you.

Communities such as Matholesville are often riddled with crime and poverty, very under-resourced, and unemployment is rife.

However, these socioeconomic factors did not stop a group of friends who saw the need to inject some positive energy into the community by rolling up their sleeves and making use of their culinary abilities.

On Sunday, 7 February as the rain and cold weather seemed possible but stayed away, the children of Matholesville were treated to a meal of samp, veggies and chicken stew that was well-nigh faultlessly prepared.

Present on the day was Ward 127 councillor, Sabelo Ngcane who applauded the initiative and indicated that such acts of kindness from ordinary citizens should be encouraged and advanced to the highest level.

According to one of the organisers, Vusumzi Mphanjukelwa, the idea originated from a group of friends from the Eastern Cape who are based on the West Rand.

“We realised how important it was for us to do something good for our community when the country was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic and a lot of people lost their jobs.

“We decided to come together as friends and do something small, so we all dedicated our time and resources to ensure that the day was a success,” said Vusumzi.
