All things love at the Garden

Although the annual Valentine’s Day picnic was cancelled this year due to Covid-19, lovebirds came out in large numbers from all corners of Gauteng to celebrate the day of love at this Eden hidden on the West Rand.

Love filled the air at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden in Poortview as lovers, families and friends painted the majestic facility red and white on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, 14 February.

Although the annual Valentine’s Day picnic was cancelled this year due to Covid-19, lovebirds came out in large numbers from all corners of Gauteng to celebrate the day of love at this Eden hidden on the West Rand.

The gentle green grass surrounded by a variety of indigenous vegetation provided the perfect setting for lovers and families to spread their picnic blankets on the lawn, unfold their camping chairs and unpack their picnic baskets to enjoy the summer’s day.

The Garden’s main attraction, the Witpoortjie Waterfall, with its water gushing from a height of 70 metres, was the cherry on top for the visitors as most spent time near the falls taking photographs and appreciating the natural scenery.

The colourful train on wheels provided the necessary entertaining ride around the Garden for those who had brought along their children.

As the sun was setting and it was time for the Garden to close its gates for the night, management thanked all its visitors for choosing their facility and also adhering to the Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing and wearing a mask during the visit.
