Preserving the dignity of young girls

A girl child, who’s deprived of going to school because she cannot afford sanitary pads, is a humanitarian crisis that Tahirah Jegels wishes to overcome on the West Rand.

This Free World Initiative representative and humanitarian at heart has partnered with the WAWA centres to spearhead a sanitary drive for marginalised school girls in the community.

“Pads should be free in schools, not condoms,” Tahirah firmly expressed her opinion as vulnerable girls are left with no choice but to put their education on hold whenever it’s that time of the month.

The WAWA Centre has listed the Krugersdorp, Muldersdrift, Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng Police Stations as drop-off spots.

“The drive will run for the whole year and the donations will be distributed among the surrounding schools on the West Rand,” she said.
