Liquor seized from an illegal trader

A number of crates filled with beer found in the possession of the suspect were confiscated.

The adjustment to the sale of liquor came into effect on 1 March after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the easing of the lockdown restrictions to Level 1 on 28 February.

The Level 1 regulations stipulated the return of the normal trading hours for licensed liquor outlets and a curfew from 00.00am to 4am. However, none of the new rules gave the green light for unlicensed individuals to trade.

For this reason, a single suspect was arrested by Honeydew Police for breaking the law. The spokesperson for the station, Captain Balan Muthan said the individual was charged with selling liquor without a licence in Cosmo City.

A number of crates filled with beer found in the possession of the suspect were confiscated.

Muthan has since sent a stern warning to the residents to refrain from selling alcohol without a licence, or any substance declared illegal in the country.
