Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, confirmed the driver’s arrest and that JMPD officers were aware of the threat posed by vehicles who exceeded the weight restriction. “William Nicol Drive in Constantia Kloof has a very steep decline and there are signs which prohibit trucks of five ton and above to use that road. JMPD officers have issued dozens of fines of R500 each to drivers of big trucks who disregarded the signs,” he said.

The road has been re-opened today, 7 March.
