Planned power interruption for Ward 71 postponed

City Power has discovered that the work that needs to be conducted on the Penny Street Substation will take longer than the eight hours they had initially allocated; therefore, the planned power interruption has been postponed.

Earlier this week, City Power has sent out a notice urging residents of Ward 71 to prepare for a planned power interruption that would occur for the majority of Thursday, 18 March.

The interruption was planned to allow City Power to conduct essential maintenance on the Penny Street Substation in hopes of minimising the chances of unplanned power outages in the area. However, shortly after the power was switched off in Ward 71, it was discovered that the work that needed to be conducted would take longer than the eight hours City Power had initially allocated.

Therefore, the decision was made to restore power to the affected areas and postpone the maintenance to a later date. While this date has not yet been announced, City Power say they will provide further information in due course, and the power interruption will be planned for as soon as possible.

The Record will provide an update as soon as the new date for the planned power interruption is announced.

The maintenance on the Penny Street Substation will affect the following areas, so residents in any of the below sections of Ward 71 are asked to keep an eye on the Record website and City Power social media pages for updates:
• Witpoortjie
• Grobler Park
• Princess
• Lindhaven
• Culembeeck

The power entity has apologised for any inconvenience caused to residents.
