Touching music meant to dispel GBV

Eric told the Northsider that he released this song with the intent to bring healing, love and happiness in a country where gender-based violence is rife.

Newland’s finest Afro soul music sensation Eric Mokaleng, affectionately known by his stage name Fresh Eric, has released a fresh new hit titled Yimina Lo (It’s Me).

The determined youngster used the hard lockdown imposed by the government last year to his advantage by picking up a pen and notebook to write some new lyrics.

At the end of the year, the local musician infused his creative juices into an Amapiano genre beat to produce the new release which he dropped on 12 February, two days before Valentine’s Day.

Eric told the Northsider that he released this song with the intent to bring healing, love and happiness in a country where gender-based violence is rife.

“What inspired this song was GBV. I realised that men carry the stigma that they are trying to change women to suit their characters, so this song speaks to that. We sometimes meet women who are comfortable in their mini skirts, and when we become part of their lives we expect them to change their dress code, and at times even their behaviour,” the fashionable artist explained.

The Constantia Kloof employee added that the track featured his homeboy Lil MH from Mpumalanga who created and produced the electrifying beat.

“My homeboy wanted vocals on the beat, and with my versatility, I was able to make magic with it,” said the Afro-pop vocalist.

He further explained that Yimina Lo has been doing well since its release, and will soon be hitting the airwaves. Its immediate success prompted him to shoot a music video for it, which dropped on YouTube on Friday, 12 March.
