Following the burgling and stripping of The Department of Public Works’ vacant property in Constantia Kloof, the entity has reported the matter to the local police.
Friedah Khoza from the department, responding to an email inquiring about the issue, stated that a case of housebreaking was reported at Honeydew Police Station following the crime.
The spokesperson for the station, Captain Balan Muthan, confirmed the case, saying that the burglars forced open the sliding door to gain entry to the property at 37 Duiker Street North.

He further confirmed that the matter was under investigation.
Previously, Karen Poole, the chairperson of Constantia Kloof Village Residents Association, who’s dissatisfied with the condition of this property and another at 968 Bushbuck Avenue, suggested that Public Works consider selling both properties as they were inhabitable with exorbitant municipal bills to be settled.
“The Department is aware of the condition of both properties and a site inspection has been conducted. The challenge with outstanding municipal bills is due to the City of Johannesburg billing estimates on both properties, and this has been escalated to them,” Khoza replied to the suggestion.

“DPWI is currently not selling any of the properties belonging to the State. The strategy in place is to let them on a short-term basis until the moratorium on permanent disposal is lifted,” Khoza concluded.
