Remembering slain Brenda five years later

The 25th of March marked five years since the reprehensible and senseless death of Brenda Ruvando, a young woman who was found raped and murdered in Little Falls.
Brenda, who had been waiting for transport on the corner of Cascades and Hendrik Potgieter Roads after an evening shift fell into a death trap set by a brazen man who took her life.

Although the killer was arrested following an intense investigation by the police, her death marked a new era in the community of Little Falls and surrounds, as residents and local businesses took initiative by erecting a cross to remember Brenda, and have dug deep into their pockets since to maintain the area around the cross for the purpose of safety and visibility.
It was once argued that if it wasn’t for the overgrowth of roots and grass on that notorious corner in 2016, Brenda would’ve easily found help from passing motorists; however, the thick vegetation prevented her from being seen until the next morning when she was found killed. She was survived by one child.

To ensure that such an incident never happens again, BCI Security, the Little Falls Strubens Valley Residential Community (Lifco), LeapFrog and a few other businesses have collaborated over the years to ensure that Brenda’s memory remains relevant by partaking in community service project to beautify the area.
