Local NPO wishes for a Guinness World Record
“This is our biggest mountain to conquer and we are asking all people of all races to be involved in our attempt to bring and make change.”
Guinness World Records has accepted the application by the locally based non-profit organisation, Mpho Ya Lethabo Foundation for the longest line of sanitary pads.
Since the beginning of the year the Foundation, started by 17-year-old Lethabo Mofokane, has been eager to find new and bigger ways to grow their sanitary pad drive.
According to Lethabo, to grow the Foundation’s name and initiative, they had to look for a greater way of doing so; and what other way than to make history for our country and be recognised globally.
“This is our biggest mountain to conquer, and we are asking all people of all races to be involved in our attempt to bring and make change,” said Lethabo.
The Foundation had a successful February in which they were able to collect over 700 sanitary pads, of which they distributed to five local shelters.
Their wish to collect over 20 320 sanitary pads as they strive towards distributing them in other provinces as well, and their chances of success are in the hands of all their supporters.
“No dream is ever too big and no effort of support is ever too small,” said the charitable Strubens Valley resident.

Lethabo started the meaningful project to help vulnerable girl during the early stages of the dreaded coronavirus hard lockdown last year.
She got the support of her parents and a few friends to start the Mpho Ya Lethabo Foundation – which means ‘gift of happiness’ – an organisation that aims to promote good menstrual health and hygiene management, and dispel the stigma around women and young girls’ menstrual cycle.
The Foundation is in the middle of promoting the sanitary pad drive and getting sponsorships. Members of the public who are interested in donating towards this project are requested to email lethabomofokane@gmail.com or visit Gift of Happinessza on Instagram.
