Cancer Association of South Africa completes migration to virtual services

All CANSA services to remain available including clinic days, home care and prosthetics assistance.

Brick and mortar may give you something to hold on to but a meaningful helping hand has multiple manifestations.

For the past 12 years, Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) has occupied the pink house along the Ontdekkers service road but as physical premises give way to modern digitisation, CANSA has followed suit. The staff of the West Rand office said goodbye to their hub of healing with an unceremonious yet reflective wave on 30 March.

“It has been a haven of light for so many people. Our vision and mission have always been the fight to save lives, and that will never stop,” said Unit Manager, Olivia Curlewis, who has spent 25 years with the organisation. It is important to note that all services currently offered by CANSA will still be available and can be arranged through a simple phone call. While regional offices will be going virtual, the Bedfordview head office will remain fully operational, and home-based care will continue uninterrupted.

The move to a virtual service may require a brief adjustment but what remains steadfast is the CANSA staff’s dedication to their work. Clinic days will continue as usual but will instead by hosted by appointment at Park Pharmacy at the corner of Golf Club Terrace and Honeyball Avenue. The standard array of tests will be available, including clinical breast examinations, prostate specific antigen tests, blood tests and FotoFinder skin cancer tests.

“It just means we are working smarter. It helps us to provide more services with less overheads so that every cent we generate goes to where it is needed most,” said Olivia.
