On 22 April, the MMC for Housing in the City of Johannesburg, Mlungisi Mabaso paid a visit to the community of Ward 127 under Councillor Sabelo Ngcana which covers about six communities.
Mabaso was joined by officials from the Department of Housing and the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) for several site visits that commenced from the Roodepoort City Hall.
The oversight briefing that was to take place at the Roodepoort City Hall never materialised as opposing members within Ward 127 brought along their political differences that fed on the allocated time like a hungry serpent.
However, Mabaso was quick to put a stop to the disruptions and reminded all present that government programmes should not be halted by political frictions.
“I am here to do my work as the MMC. If you have your own personal or political battles within the ANC that is your own problem to deal with, but not on my platform.
“We cannot take political frictions into government programmes, so there will be no briefing now. I am going to these places now and the meeting is adjourned,” said Mabaso.
The MMC engaged with the community of Plot 8 as they wanted to know about the plans regarding housing developments in their area, as the residents are currently living in poverty and feel neglected.
The situation is no different in Matholesville Ext 4, where the residents were keen to know about their future in the settlement as they are currently occupying privately owned land with no services.
The complaints of the Sol Plaatje residents were also addressed. They said the houses they had been allocated were leaking and needed attention.
In Leratong Village and Tshepisong Phase 7 the community was addressed on the subject of services which the MMC tackled on the day.
