Local animal shelters benefit from R2 million worth of tick and flea tablets

West Rand animal shelters CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) and FORA (Friends of Rescued Animals) were among the beneficiaries of an across the country generous donation of 7 000 boxes of tick and flea tablets worth R2 million.

“We are absolutely touched and would like to say a huge thank you to Simparica South Africa for their incredible generosity and donation of the tablets,” said Roxy Athanasopoulos from the Harveys beacon of light foundation.

According Roxy, their organisation in partnership with the team from Puppify – Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming, were able to help organisations across the country, among them FORA, The Dogs Trust, CLAW, Barberton SPCA, Noupoort Animalcare, The Society for Animals in Distress, PETS JHB – Pet Empowerment in Townships.

“Without the help and determination of the amazing Wendy from Puppify, this incredible dream of helping so many furry friends across our country would not have been realised.

“We feel so lucky to be able to work with such incredible human beings and to have the constant support and love of our community,” said Roxy.

Harveys beacon of light foundation NPC was started in honour of a much-loved and stocky little French Bulldog named Harvey.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the much-needed donation.

“On behalf of Barberton SPCA, our gratitude to all involved is immeasurable. Normally this type of product is way beyond our means, so we humans and animals are saying a mighty big thank you to all involved.”

CLAW responded by saying, “Truly fabulous, a massive thank you to all the people that made this possible”.

“Well done Roxy Athanasopoulos, this is great work. Thanks to all involved; this is so needed, will call you sometime this week,” said Mariaan Brits.

Thys Mulder hopes the FORA babies are gogga-free now, “… a shame it doesn’t keep all the “gogga” (mean people) away as well”.
