Muldersdrift FPA launch fire water truck

According to Muldersdrift FPA chairperson, Johan Schwartz, the 5 000 litres 4x4 fire water truck is ideal for assisting in the event of fires at farms in the Cradle of Humankind as there are no municipal water points nearby.

Muldersdrift Fire Protection Association (FPA) have launched their own fire water truck that will assist them when fighting fires as it is used to transport water from a water source to a fire scene.

According to Muldersdrift FPA chairperson, Johan Schwartz, the 5 000 litres 4×4 fire water truck is ideal for assisting in the event of fires at farms in the Cradle of Humankind as there are no municipal water points nearby.

“It becomes a problem when the smaller fire units run dry and we must run to get another water point which is further away,” said Johan.

The Muldersdrift FPA is registered and audited by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

“We as an association are launching our fire water truck for which we have saved, and purchased in time for this year’s fire season as we felt it will be desperately needed. We are also launching Muldersdrift FPA Fire First Responder teams that have had fire and first aid training to assist the communities in the informal settlements with shack fires,” said Muldersdrift FPA exco spokesperson, Shenan Cochrane.

The Muldersdrift FPA together with training personnel from the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) are currently conducting fire safety and awareness campaigns at Muldersdrift schools.

In addition, to prevent further disasters and in preparation for the fire season, volunteer FPA fire teams have been formed in the larger informal settlements like Video and ABSA Camp.

According to the Muldersdrift FPA, these team members are receiving firefighting and first aid training, and will be ready to be first responders to fire emergencies in their communities going forward. They are providing fire buckets and other equipment to help these teams respond effectively.

Muldersdrift FPA revealed their next plan to the Northsider – making use of a drone to assist them with an aerial view which makes it so much easy to combat a raging fire.

Muldersdrift FPA are appealing to members of the public and local business to assist them in acquiring a drone to make their work easier and more effective.
