Free health screening at mobile clinic

A mobile clinic was set up for Allen's Nek residents to receive free health screenings

The Department of Health set up a mobile clinic for residents at the Allen’s Nek retail centre on Monday 17 May. The clinic, which opened at nine in the morning, welcomed residents as they slowly trickled in.

The clinic offered health screenings and tests to the community members for free. They conducted Covid-19 screening and testing, and did hypertension, diabetes and HIV/Aids tests. Manager of the Region C clinics, Rose Legwale said the mobile clinics were set up to offer medical services to as many people as possible. She clarified that the clinics would be in one location for a day, unless the demand required them to stay another day.

An Allen’s Nek resident said he appreciated the speed and efficiency of the health workers, adding that they were friendly and informative, which provided an overall pleasant experience, “… except, you have to bleed,” he joked. “You can do a prostate cancer test, Pap smears, Covid test, HIV test and cholesterol too. It is a broad spectrum of tests.”
