How you can help CLAW

For more than 20 years, Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) has been a pioneer in animal welfare. Started by Cora Bailey in order to provide veterinary care to animals in need, this non-profit organisation (NPO) has also become a make-shift shelter to abandoned animals. While they are not equipped to be a shelter, the organisation will never turn desperate animals away.

As a non-profit organisation, without the support of community members and businesses, they cannot continue to provide veterinary services to communities who cannot ordinarily afford a vet. Not only do they need to cover the costs of treating these sick animals, especially the poisoning cases that are brought to them almost daily, they need to be able to feed the animals and run their centre too.

If you would like to help CLAW, there are several ways in which you can do it:
• Donate – the most regular needs for CLAW are food and bowls (for dogs and cats), blankets and towels (especially as we approach winter), leads and collars, newspapers, cat litter, washing powder, bleach, and veterinary supplies and medications. If you can donate financially, CLAW has set up a BackaBuddy page to raise money for their medical costs: https://bit.ly/349DwEn

• Network – raise awareness and spread the word about CLAW. Even if you cannot help the organisation, someone you know might be able to

• Fund-raise – set up a fundraiser or host a sports day with CLAW as your beneficiary. Otherwise, you can leave something to CLAW in your will, or set up a monthly debit order

• Be responsible – be a responsible pet owner by having your pets spayed and neutered. Provide them with their health care and socialisation needs, and proper identification (microchips in case your fur baby gets lost)

• Volunteer – cuddle some puppies, clean some cages, and help socialise and entertain the animals in CLAW’s care. Your time and love will mean the world to these animals

• Foster – CLAW is always looking for foster homes to help rehabilitate special-needs cases, such as bottle-feeding newborns and assisting the very young, traumatised, or frail CLAWbies (including newborns and their mothers)

• Adopt – if you are looking to add to your family, CLAW is the perfect place to look. Their adoption album, donation information, and current projects can be found on their website.
