‘You are not fighting alone’
On Saturday, 8 May, Warriors With A Purpose hosted a cancer awareness event like no other at the Florida Lake.
No matter the specificity of the diagnosis, cancer can be terrifying.
This is why a community standing in solidarity and support is so important. On Saturday, 8 May, Warriors With A Purpose hosted a cancer awareness event like no other at the Florida Lake.

Pivotal in its organisation was Renée Singh, a 41-year-old survivor of Stage 2 Breast Cancer, who has thankfully been in remission for two years now. When Renée was diagnosed, she was in total shock. She said it was a tough, challenging experience but she refused to accept defeat, and today, she is ready for any curve ball thrown her way.
The event was held to inspire, educate, and share love, motivation, and support with those suffering from cancer or whose loved ones have been diagnosed. With awareness drives like these, survivors can know that they have a community behind them, and like Renée, can take on any challenge. Pink decorations surrounded the area, some people even going as far as putting the decorations on themselves.

Stall holders, a DJ and some amazing guests only made the day more memorable. One of the inspirational guest speakers was Avumile Solundwana, a male survivor of breast cancer who has gone through a mastectomy and attended the event to help educate the male community on breast cancer in men. The special guest for the day was Lerato Ndaba, a beautiful woman currently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer who sadly is dependant on her oxygen tank.
Cancer can be terrifying, anger-fuelling, draining, and so much more, but when a community comes together to raise awareness, love and support each other, the weight is lessened in a very important way. “Cancer is not a death sentence. You are not alone in this battle. There is always hope, love, time and support in this cancer journey,” concluded Renée.
