Help keep the fur babies at the SPCA warm this winter

The SPCA is desperately seeking jerseys for their dogs and puppies, as well as other winter essentials, as the temperature plummets.

Whether they are sheltering strays or surrendered animals, or rescuing animals from horrifying conditions, the SPCA undeniably does fantastic work when it comes to animal welfare.

The financial aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic has led to an increased number of animals being surrendered to the SPCA and other animal shelters. With the number of cats and dogs in their care increasing, the need for financial support goes up as well, especially as the weather is drastically cooling.

This winter is one of the coldest in memory for many residents, but while we sleep in our warm beds, the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA is asking us to spare a thought for the cats and dogs that are sleeping in kennels.

The animal welfare organisation is desperately seeking jerseys for their dogs and puppies as the temperature plummets. Other items on their wish list for winter include cat and dog beds, blankets (storm blankets from PEP or Jet work the best), tinned food and dry pellets, and toys or treats for the animals (squeaky toys, hooves, cat nip).

While adoption is always the first and best option for the SPCA, they need to make sure the animals that have not been adopted yet are cared for and comfortable. If you can assist, donations can be dropped at the SPCA premises at 3 Nadine Street, Florida. Collection can also be arranged by contacting 011 672 0448 or emailing manager@rdptspca.co.za.
