BEPR confirm chick on the nest
In the beginning of June BEPR monitors reported that there had been a change in the behaviour of the eagles on the nest.
On Wednesday, 9 June members of the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans (BEPR), confirmed that the egg has hatched and there is a chick on the nest.
According to BEPR, at this stage they are uncertain if a second egg was laid and all they can confirm for now is the presence of a chick.
“We can now confirm that the first egg has hatched; at this stage we are not certain if there is a second egg. We will keep you posted,” said BERP monitor and photographer, Johann van den Berg.

In the beginning of June BEPR monitors reported that there had been a change in the behaviour of the eagles on the nest.
On the morning of 6 June photographic evidence of prey being brought to the nest provided strong indications that the egg has hatched and there is a possibility of a chick on the nest.
“Members of the BEPR are very excited about the latest developments at the Botanical Garden, and hope for a successful breeding cycle to be completed,” said Johann.
