Molepi Rising Stars and Lydia Pitsoane celebrate 10 years of excellence

School with strong Christian ethos operates out of the heart of the Roodepoort CBD

The children, parents and staff of Molepi Rising Stars gathered in the freshly tented courtyard of the Rex Street school for a day of thanksgiving, appreciation and celebration on 29 May.

Marking their 10th birthday, the Africa Month themed event was also a chance to heap praise on founder and cornerstone, Lydia Pitsoane.

Specialising in Early Childhood Development, Lydia has grown the school from humble beginnings to being one of the premier educational hubs in Roodepoort. Molepi Rising Stars offers Grades R through to nine and boasts a wide curriculum that features foundational skills, language skills, physical education as well as art and music lessons.

All in attendance at the birthday bash were dripping in their finest and most colourful of traditional African prints, jewellery and accessories. Adding to the lively ambiance was the blaring gospel music, lending to the school’s strong Christian ethos. “It went perfectly well. I am still tired today,” laughed the affable matriarch days after the event.

While the reins of principal have been passed over to Thabo Nkosi, Lydia is still the soul of the establishment, drawing learners from across Roodepoort and various suburbs throughout Soweto. Choirs delighted, speakers inspired and all showed their gratitude to a woman and a school bursting with spirit.
