Pay it forward with STINT

Stint is hosting a career fair for 30 young people on Youth Day.

Supporting Those in Need Together (STINT) will provide 30 young people with career talks and guidance on Youth Day, 16 June at the Weltevreden Methodist Church. The Youth Day Career Fair is an opportunity for young people between the ages of 15 and 19 to hear from well-known businesses, get information from Wits University on qualifying for a tertiary education, bursary opportunities from SETA, and crucial information on learnerships and internships in different sectors.

Adeline Singh, co-founder of Stint said they want to motivate, inspire and influence the community to support the residents and children who are in need, within the community. “We want to empower community members to lift themselves up and hopefully be in a position in the future to pay it forward themselves.” The career fair is an opportunity for learners to receive guidance and assistance in their academic work and future careers in what has been an especially difficult academic year. Singh added that with South Africa’s record-high unemployment rate, “We as Stint need to do our part in supporting those in need. Our purpose is not to hold judgement or question how these circumstances have arisen, but to render support – only if we have the means to do so.”

Stint is a non-profit company that was formed in January 2021 and currently supports eight families in various ways such as with food, clothing and career-guidance support. The upcoming career fair is expected to begin at 10:00 in the morning and is open to young people in the Weltevreden Park and surrounding areas. Space is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions.
