STINT co-founder shares Covid journey to recovery

Co-founder of STINT (Supporting Those In Need Together), Adeline Singh is sharing her journey to recovery and health after she and her husband contracted the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus.
Adeline said she and her family were very paranoid about contracting the virus, but admitted they have been slightly relaxed during the third wave. “We didn’t sanitize the food we brought home anymore, we forgot to carry sanitizers wherever we went, and we were very relaxed about removing clothes when we returned home,” the Weltevreden Park resident explained.

Her husband, Nareen is a front office worker and has not been working from home. He also has co-morbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure and being overweight. The couple first showed symptoms of a runny nose, headache and ear ache. Adeline said after they received their positive results, they immediately isolated in their bedroom, away from their children.
“We called everyone we had been in contact with so that others could be alert and aware to test at the first sign of symptoms. We isolated from our children and contacted our domestic worker to inform her not to come to work. Days four to seven were the most difficult,” she said. “We had body aches. We were so tired we couldn’t do anything but take medication.” She said the support from friends and family, who dropped off food meant a great deal to them.

As the co-founder of STINT, Adeline and her team support families with food, clothing and career guidance. The non-profit organisation’s focus is helping those in need by offering support in the local community. “The past three weeks have been difficult because we could not see to the people that we support because we were ill ourselves.”
She said her GP, Dr Venitha Seera gave them a list of tried home remedies:
• Get a Pulse Oximeter (Clicks or Dis-Chem) to monitor oxygen saturation levels
• Steam four times per day to open up the airways
• Practice breathing exercises for which she sent a list on WhatsApp
“Without our doctor, who knows what would have happened. There are very few doctors who actually take the time and effort to show, care, love and support, especially when they have other Covid patients. We are just so grateful.”
The couple fought Covid pneumonia and came out on the other side. Adeline shared that Nareen is currently completing the last leg of his physiotherapy.
