Zandspruit hosts youth imbizo
The youth Imbizo encouraged community members to create relationships and opportunities that will uplift them and their community
Stakeholders in Zandspruit held a youth Imbizo on Friday, June 25, to address community challenges and provide solutions. Community leaders and recruiters advised attendees on networking and creating opportunities within the community that will benefit them.
Chairperson of the Zandspruit Stakeholders Forum, Tebogo Mangena said it was important that community members are mobilised and information shared. He said the objective of the imbizo was to raise issues amongst the youth and community members.

“We should have a team that will work towards those issues. For instance, of the issue is unemployment, we can set up a team that holds workshops to help the unemployed draw up their CVs or prepare for an interview,” he advised. “If you aren’t working, volunteer so that you will still have something to put on your CV. Use your phone and do research. Associate yourself with people who can help or mentor you. Be careful with your time and use it wisely.”
During the event, CVs were also collected, and recruitment agents and entrepreneurs shared advice. Vuyokazi Mdlokolo, a recruiter in the Department of Labour shared success stories from people she has helped find employment. She encouraged every person there not to squander opportunities when they come along. “You could get a job that doesn’t sound ideal to what you wanted but it is important to get a foot in the door. And when a recruiter tells you about a job opening that you feel does not align with you, say so because that opportunity could go to someone else who needs it.”

The youth imbizo was encouraging to many residents who have been without work for years, and important relationships were formed with people willing to assist and uplift others on their way to success. Age is not a limit to success.
