Former Miss SA takes part in record-breaking cook-off

South Africans cooked and raised funds for charity in one record-breaking virtual event.

More than 2 000 South Africans came together on June 24 to attempt to break the Guinness World record for most people cooking simultaneously online. Among them was former Miss SA and businesswoman, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala.

The record-breaking cook-off was a part of the Reach For A Dream Foundation’s fundraising initiative – Cooking for Dreams. Reach For A Dream’s CEO, Julia Satirianakos said, “The Cooking For Dreams event was wonderful. It was inspiring to see so many South Africans come together in support of our dream children, and for the exciting moment to break a Guinness World Record.”

Bokang and the other participants watched chefs online as they all attempted to make a pea curry. Participants bought a box with all the ingredients from the Cooking For Dreams website and got cooking.

Proceeds from the event will towards Reach For A Dream and the work the foundations does for children with life-threatening illnesses. The event meant South Africa is currently the second country in the world to hold the Guinness World Record, it was previously held by the UK where 532 people cooked online.
