Let’s help each other to cope in these difficult times

As the third Covid-19 wave continues to swell, let us stand together and see how we can help each other.

Covid-19 has been ruling our lives for almost a year and a half now, and looking at the current situation in our country, it appears that things might not be getting better soon, resulting in most of us battling to cope.

The current third wave is continuing to swell (and is threatening to become a tsunami), numbers are rising, we have to deal with stricter lockdown regulations again, and with a great deal of loss; be it the loss of loved ones or friends, loss of income or even loss of motivation. On top of all this we have to deal with a lot of fear about the new variant driving this wave as we are unsure exactly when it is going to crash down and wash over us.

It does not matter if you believe in this virus or not, the reality is that people are dying and lives are being affected by it in one way or another. So, the purpose of this letter is to ask you, our readers, how we can help each other to better cope when this virus comes like a thief in the night.

How can we achieve this? The answer is simple, by sharing; whether it is our experience, our advice or even just providing some moral support.

• Do you have a story or a frustration you want to share with us?
• Tell us how you are handling these tough times.
• Have you had Covid-19, and if you had, how did you experience it?
• Are you going out of your way to reach out to others and offer assistance? If you do, to whom are you extending a helping hand?
• What precautions did you put in place after testing positive?
• What, in your opinion, should one do when you or your loved ones (wife, husband, children, brother, sister, mother, father) test positive?
• How do you isolate?
• Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently during isolation?
• What type of services would you have liked to make use of during your isolation period?
• Have you helped someone else in a Covid-19 crisis, and if so, how?

Share your experiences and advice with us by sending an email to roodepoortrecord@caxton.co.za.

Until next week, stay safe and look out for each other …
