Care packs for frontline heroes
The Ridgecrest Family Church in Radiokop handed over care packages to the healthcare workers at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.
Members of the Ridgecrest Family Church in Radiokop handed over care packages to the healthcare workers at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital on July 14.
The packs were put together to show support and appreciation to the frontline workers who are under immense pressure as hospitals fill to capacity amidst the third wave of Covid 19. The third wave has surely been more visceral than the last two Covid-19 waves, but South Africa’s frontline workers continue to show up and stretch themselves thin to save lives. We can never show them enough appreciation.

Ron Pretious, who is an elder in the church said he spoke with fellow church members after he was admitted to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital and saw the kind of pressure the medical staff were under. “It was so obvious that the medical staff were in desperate need of encouragement and visible practical appreciation for the demanding conditions they are all working under. The pressure is so great that doctors and nurses don’t have time for tea/ coffee or even a meal at times.”
Each care pack costs R30, and included energy bars, coffee sachets, tea, an inspirational note pad and a Bible.
Life Wilgeheuwel’s HR manager Moipone Mabilo said they appreciated the thoughts, prayers and spoils from members in the community. She added, “Our frontline staff, doctors and hospital management are being put under unbelievable pressure yet again, and have provided care to our patients under difficult conditions. Despite all this, we will continue to go out of our way to make a difference and make life better.”
