On Tuesday, July 20 Gauteng Police arrested two of the most wanted suspects in the province in Cosmo City.
It is alleged that the suspects had been terrorising the community of Olievenhoutbosch in Tshwane and the surrounding areas.
Linked to several cases of murder, house robberies and business robberies, they were found with unlicensed firearms loaded with ammunition.
The intervention team received information about the possible hideout of one of the wanted suspects, and an intelligent-driven operation was launched. The suspect was traced to Cosmo City.
After interviewing him, he took the team to another place where the second suspect jumped through a window.
He was chased and arrested, and the police also found an unlicensed firearm loaded with ammunition in his possession.
They were expected to make their first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 22.
During the Ministerial Imbizo that was held in Olievenhoutbosch in May, the community complained about the man who was terrorising the community, read a media statement from the office of the Gauteng Police Commissioner.
In response, the Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela established an intervention team to hunt down the suspect and all other criminals in the area.
“This is a breakthrough for the intervention team that has been formed to trace and arrest these most notorious and wanted suspects.
“The arrests will help us close most cases of house robberies, business robberies and murders to which these suspects are linked,” said Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Tommy Mthombeni.
