Fatalities confirmed after Friday morning accident on Ontdekkers Road
JMPD were on scene and the incident is under investigation
A motorcycle collided with a pedestrian who was crossing Ontdekkers Road at roughly 6:30 on Friday, July 30.
The motorcyclist was travelling east towards Johannesburg on the popular morning route when he struck a man crossing the three-laned arterial towards Westgate Mall. Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) closed the road but not before many commuters were able to view the tragic immediate aftermath of the incident.
Traffic backed up well past Ruhamah Drive as JMPD diverted traffic to the Ontdekkers Service Road and Kingfisher Street. Sadly, two men were confirmed dead at the scene – the pedestrian and the young motorcyclist. “The 33-year-old male motorcyclist died on the scene, as well as the unknown male pedestrian. They were both taken to the Roodepoort Mortuary,” confirmed JMPD spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
