Mass clean-up in Video

The CPF and community members worked together to clean up their area.

Patrollers of the Muldersdrift CPF in Video informal settlement are providing protection with quite a difference. Twelve foot-patrollers from the CPF alongside Noah’s Ark NPO initiated a mass cleanup operation in the Video community on Thursday, July 30. They were joined by another 40 community members.

Skhumbuzo Zuma from Muldersdrift CPF said, “Social deprivation does not mean we don’t have pride in the place where we live. We want to make a difference, but it starts with putting up your hand and getting involved, even if it’s to help clean our streets.”

There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Residents in the Roodepoort and Muldersdrift communities have proved this time and time again; ordinary people going above and beyond to help their neighbour because that is what it means to be a part of a community.

Several of the Video patrollers are unemployed, but they continue to volunteer and protect their communities. Many are involved with patrolling and other social development projects.

Paul Catlett, deputy chairperson of the Muldersdrift CPF shared that, “The CPF is now more than ever passionate about cleaning up our streets from criminals, and the dirt that goes along with it. To all the participants, we applaud you for your commitment and continued involvement.”
