Nationwide art competition kicks off

Get your paint brushes and canvases ready for this year's art competition

Painters can show off their beat brush work to be showcased at this years’ art competition at the Alice Art Gallery in Ruimsig. Curator at Mzansi Art gallery, Susan Allin said this year’s theme is ‘Candescence’ which means light or brightness. “This is open to anyone in South Africa. The artwork may not be signed and should not have been published anywhere. This is to avoid the artists being identified by the judges and perhaps influencing their decision. “

The top ten best artists will be selected through online entries. The selected artworks must then be mailed or delivered to the Alice Art Gallery for the top three selections. Susan added that once the top ten artworks have been announced, they can be signed. The closing date for the competition is September 1.

She revealed that she first organised the competition in 2020. “It culminated in a gala event in March where the top ten from across the country could display their art. The top three winners were announced and their rewards included publication in the South African Artist Magazine, cash prizes, art vouchers, accommodation at guest houses, and a whole lot of publicity. It was so successful that I decided to arrange another one.”

This year’s competition has four different judges who will remain anonymous until the gala event, expected to be held in December.
